I dangled a carrot Saturday morning 🥕 Who doesn’t like the promise of a juicy little carrot right?

Brief to the kids: study properly and we’ll go to the beach later to cut loose. Urgh - exam time. It’s foe to kids and parents. I’m not even sure who dislikes it more 🙈

It was one of those idyllic summer-in-the-middle-of-winter days at Blouberg. Late afternoon turned into early evening and well, there’s such special a energy as the sun dips 💖

@neethlingshof has something for everyone. Their kids' option elegantly goes beyond the random sweets ‘n juice thing that most places do.

The kids felt most grown-up when Eddie explained the 3 little pairings on their tasting boards 🤩

B and I loved our Flash Food & Slow Wine Pairing option. Other pairings on offer incl. Texture & Taste with wine, Belgian chocolate bonbons & wine or… wine tasting sans nibbles.

Feeling rather chilled whilst soaking in gorgeous winter sun, we ordered a delish Flammkuchen and a few pizzas from The Salt Restaurant menu to peck on after the tasting. Definitely wander around the stunning gardens or vineyards. If you have small kids note that the jungle gym is out of view of the restaurant.

It’s usually the same 2 mucking up family pics 🤪 Whilst it can be really irritating, it can be kinda funny. The chaos and imperfection a bit of a metaphor for family life 💁‍♀️

This brings me to the other morning when the twins were bouncing off the walls instead of getting ready for school. It sounded like a raucous drunken party going on in the kitchen over breakfast prep and consumption. (If only I had a quarter of that energy at 6am).

Part of me wanted to lose my shit with the shenanigans but I sat on my bed sipping steamy coffee, temporarily zoning the chaos out. There are only so many effs to dish out per day right so pace them? 😅

My daughter however saunters into my room and with the sass of a tween (and maybe her mother’s frank genes 🤭) declares, “when I have kids, they’re going to be much more civilised”. Befuddled by my inertia and with no malice intended she then says “I’m going to try harder, no offence”. I dryly reply “none taken” as I peep up from the hot cuppa. Then I just giggled… AND sighed.

AFTER all, how many disdainful judgy looks had I thrown parents as an adult until I birthed a real live human (or 3) myself 😆

Why make siblings handmade birthday cards when you can make them a personalised elaborate birthday Minecraft world instead? 😅💥

The twins started something by creating their sister a mega cat themed Minecraft world thingy majiggy for her birthday earlier this year. Inspired by her feline obsession.

She returned the favour this weekend for the boys with an intricate birthday theme park complete with personalised touches for each twin. My kids are so cute and thoughtful when they're not snarling at each other 😆

After a little screen binge to enjoy the virtual work of art, was a fresh air walk in the woods. In case you're wondering what the pic has to do with the proverbial “price of eggs” 😬

As serial trawlers of family-friendly wine estate spots, I’ll tell you we’ll be heading back to the deli at @lanzeracwineestate

There’s seating on the verandah and inside BUT… sit in the courtyard 🌳🌟 Think secret garden vibes with gorgeous trees, manicured shrubs, imposing white architecture and the Harry Potter’esque inscription on the cellar door adds that extra dash of ambiance.

Whilst there’s no jungle gym, the kids will keep well out of mischief exploring the area 🏃‍♀️🏃

Their tasty menu is well priced, has a small kiddie section, offers brekkie, other meals and everything is available ALL day. Well-behaved doggies must be welcome because we spotted several (let’s face it they behave better than many kids). Wine tastings are pairings are also done at the deli 🥂

We’re a nicer family on a farm. Way less Jerry Springer 🤭 I for one am less shouty & generally less psycho because, well… my 3 kids are so busy lapping up freeedom & fresh air they forget to drive me, and each other nuts! 😆

🌄 Dreamy evenings. Starlit night skies with sparkler fun. Early mornings exploring in dressing gowns. Sunkissed arvies spent playing at the dam. Walks with views for days. Animal love for an orphaned gosling and plenty of bigger creatures to admire from a further distance (next post).

Immersed in nature and 100% unplugged. B.L.I.S.S. 😍

🌿 @kwetuguestfarm in Swellendam is the perfect tonic for a really good battery recharge! Delightfully suitable for kids of all ages 🎉

In summer you're shaded from the hot sun and in winter the magnificent trees still provide shelter from drizzle (coming from a rain and cold averse baby). This makes it perfect for year round fun! 🙌
