Kids Cruise Free At The V&A Waterfront!
To celebrate Heritage Day we decided to be tourists at home and took our menagerie on the City Sightseeing Harbour and Canal Cruise around the V&A Waterfront. It was so much fun and best of all…the kids tickets were FREE!
To be fair these cruises are very well priced to begin with as an affordable family activity but with the special bonus of 3 for 1, it’s an opportunity not to be missed! 2 Kids under 18 cruise free with every adult ticket purchased. If you book online you save an extra few bob plus you’ll skip queues at the ticket office. This definitely rates as a One Stop Wanderlust #bigfamilystar winner seeing as up to 4 kids cruise free with 2 paying adults.
Time is running out though as this deal ends 8th October but with the school holiday starting now, it’s the perfect time to squeeze it in!
Harbour Cruise
This 20 minute cruise departs every 20 minutes and takes you around the bustling Victoria and Alfred basins. Enjoy seal sightings, a unique view of the touristy waterfront attractions and also get insight into aspects of an actual working harbour.
Canal Cruise
This cruise is also 20 minutes long and also departs every 20 minutes. You can hop on and off and your ticket is valid for the day. Expect to take a leisurely cruise along the canal starting from the waterfront outside the One&Only hotel, gliding past very expensive apartments and passing under roads in areas where you didn’t even realise there was a canal! You’ll eventually reach the CTICC area of the foreshore where you can get off to wander or just stay put for the ride back.
Additional
Both tours offer audio commentary in no less than 15 languages including a kids channel in English that they will enjoy listening to rather than the adult version. My kids found it quite novel to each have their own little headphones to follow along to. Kids are also required to wear life jackets which the slightly paranoid mother in me was rather chuffed with. Safety first and all.
Price and Bookings
Book online and the cruises will each cost R45 per adult instead of R50. R180 gives 2 adults and up to 4 kids two cruises each! The 3 for 1 deal isn’t valid for the City Sightseeing Combo ticket so if you plan to do both cruises like we did, book separately. Timetables are available online as well as answers to any other questions. You can also call them on 021 511 6000.
Other City Sightseeing Tours
Visit online to see all the other fantastic options offered by City Sightseeing in and around Cape Town. We’re hoping to still squeeze in their 3 for 1 special on the Cape Town Open Top Bus Tour. This costs R200 per adult ticket.
It really is fun to be a tourist in your own backyard and there really aren’t too many places as awesome as Cape Town to do this in. Local is truly lekker!
Have you done these cruises? Have you perhaps done the open top bus tour yet and maybe have some handy hints for us? Let me know in the comments below.
